The Chavdar Folklore Center needed to convey multiple stories about the region’s customs and folklore. We created The Wheel of Life, an interactive installation that captures the oral history and customs of local residents, and The Spiritual World, which brings the rituals and customs associated with authentic objects to life.

The Wheel of Life is an enlarged wagon wheel that is placed horizontally. Above the wheel, we mounted a holographic projection screen. The audience navigates documentary video content by turning the wheel. The video materials show interviews with local residents who retell local history and sing local songs. The footage was filmed by film director Nikola Boshnakov.

The Spiritual World of Objects consists of a wooden chest with a display of various ethnographic objects, such as a spoon, a hookah, and a shuttle. On top of the chest is a board. When visitors place one of the objects on the board, a story related to the object’s symbolic value in local folklore is retold. Writer Ivanka Mogilska created the stories for the installation.
